How much does a website cost in India?

A small business website in India usually costs ₹10,000 to ₹80,000 to build. Here is what each price buys, what you pay every year after that, and how to compare two quotes.

A small business website in India usually costs ₹10,000 to ₹80,000 to build, according to Hostinger's 2026 price guide. An online store usually costs ₹1,50,000 to ₹4,00,000 or more. Domain and hosting then add a few thousand rupees every year. Our own basic business websites start at ₹20,000.

India has no official price list, and Hostinger sells hosting and website tools, so read its figures as one company's map of the market. They are still useful, because they show why two quotes for a website can be so far apart.

What do you get at each price?

Type of websiteTypical costWho it suits
Basic site, 1 to 5 pages₹5,000 to ₹50,000Freelancers, portfolios and small local businesses
Small business site, 5 to 15 pages₹10,000 to ₹80,000Restaurants, tuition centres, consultants and local services
Professional site, 10 to 20 pages, custom design₹80,000 to ₹1,50,000Growing businesses that need branding and advanced features
Online store₹1,50,000 to ₹4,00,000 or moreShops that need a payment gateway and stock control
Custom or enterprise site₹2,50,000 to ₹10,00,000 or moreStart-ups, SaaS platforms and complex web applications

Who builds it matters too. The same guide puts a website builder you run yourself at ₹2,000 to ₹6,000 a year, a freelancer at ₹10,000 to ₹80,000 for the project, and an agency at ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000 or more.

What does a website cost with us?

Our basic business websites start at ₹20,000. That covers your own design and copy, with enquiries going to WhatsApp and email. We can price it there because we work from Jalgaon and the three of us do the work ourselves. Anything bigger, we quote after a call.

We publish separate guides for Jalgaon and Dubai, because the going rates differ.

What pushes the price up?

The price climbs with the number of pages, and with anything the site has to do rather than just show.

  • Online payments and a product catalogue, which turn the site into an online store.
  • Bookings, appointments or class timetables.
  • A second language, such as English with Hindi or Marathi.
  • Connections to other software, such as a CRM, your accounting software or a WhatsApp Business account.
  • Writing the content and photographing your products or premises.

If you plan to sell online, compare Shopify with a custom store before you ask for quotes. The answer changes both the build price and the monthly bill.

What will you pay every year after launch?

Running costPrice guideWhat to check
Domain name₹500 to ₹1,500 a yearIt should be registered in your name
Shared hosting₹2,000 to ₹5,000 a yearThe renewal price, not only the first term
Shopify Basic, if you use it₹1,499 a month paid yearly, or ₹1,994 paid monthlyAny fees from a third-party payment provider
Razorpay payment gateway, if you use it2% of each sale, plus 18% GST on that feeOther rates and offers on your own account

Look closely at renewal prices. Hostinger's own Premium hosting plan is ₹139 a month on a 48-month term, then renews at ₹449 a month. There is nothing wrong with an offer like that, as long as you budget for the second number.

Someone also has to update prices, add products and fix things when they break. Ask what that costs before you sign.

Does the quote include GST?

Ask, because it can change the comparison. Web development generally falls under heading 9983 of India's GST rate notification, which works out at 18%: 9% central tax and 9% state tax. A supplier with turnover under ₹20 lakh generally does not have to register for GST, although some exceptions apply, so one quote may include tax and another may not. Compare the final figures, and ask your accountant whether you can claim the tax back.

Is website design the same as website development?

No, although most quotes include both. Design decides how the site looks and how a visitor moves through it. Development is building it so that it works, loads quickly and can be updated. A cheap quote often means one of the two is coming from a template, so ask which parts are made for you.

The platform affects this as well. Read Next.js vs WordPress if a developer has offered you a choice, and how to make a website for your business for the steps from plan to launch.

How do you compare two quotes?

Ask each supplier to put these in writing. Then you can compare like with like.

  • How many pages, and who writes the text?
  • Are a contact form, a WhatsApp button and your Google Maps location included?
  • Who registers the domain, in whose name, and who holds the logins?
  • What do domain and hosting cost from the second year?
  • Is basic SEO set up: page titles, descriptions, a sitemap and Google Search Console?
  • How many rounds of changes are included, and what does a change cost after launch?
  • Does the price include GST, and what is the launch date?

Can AI build your website for less?

Yes, for some jobs. AI website builders and coding tools can now produce a working page in an afternoon, and good developers use them to work faster. For a one-page site, a draft to show your family or partners, or a quick page for one offer, that may be all you need.

The harder part is everything around the page. Someone has to connect your domain, set up hosting and the security certificate, make sure the contact form actually reaches your inbox, add page titles and Google Search Console, and keep backups. AI tools can do much of that too, including putting the site live. The risk is putting it live when nobody understands what was set up.

AI can draft a site in hours. Someone still has to check what it set up before launch.
What AI does wellWhat goes wrong when nobody checks
A first design and layout in hoursIt looks fine on a laptop and breaks on a low-cost phone
First drafts of the page textPrices, timings or claims that are not true for your business
Writing the codeSecret keys left in the code, or a form anyone can flood with spam
Putting the site liveThe domain or hosting sits in someone else's account, and nobody knows how to fix it when it stops

A contact form that silently fails costs you every enquiry it loses, and you may not notice for weeks.

So use AI to bring the build price down, but ask two questions before you pay: who checked the site before it went live, and who fixes it when something stops working? A good team uses AI to work faster and still has a person who understands the site check it before launch.

So what should you spend?

If you only need to be found by name, a basic site or a website builder is fine, and nobody should talk you into more. If you want the site to bring in enquiries from people who do not know you yet, budget for a proper business website and judge it on one thing: whether it brings in more calls and WhatsApp messages than it cost.
